Peacekeeper Enterprises Congratulates The Winning Teams At Startup Weekend Bakersfield 2017

Techstars Startup Weekend event was held between November 17 and November 19, 2017 in Bakersfield, California. The Startup Weekend events are about bringing together entrepreneurs for meeting new people, building, and launching new products in a hackathon environment. The teams had 54 hours to build out their idea and the best execution of the idea (based on validation, business model, technical, and design) won the competition. A panel of three judges decided the winners at the end of the event after each team presented a 5 minute pitch.

1st Place: Team Medi+Pal won first place and consisted of Emma, Krystal, and Sergio plus Tamara and Eli from Peacekeeper Enterprises. The solution that Team Medi+Pal built was an enterprise SaaS HIPAA compliant system for deploying into hospitals to better patient outcomes by reducing response times. Embarcadero Delphi helped power the team to victory with it’s rapid application development style. The winning team received ~$7,000 worth of startup accelerator style services like hosting and such. 2nd Place: Team CarECycle won second place for their solution for recycling car parts through an online marketplace bringing together buyers and sellers of used car parts from junk yards and other locations. Omar from Peacekeeper Enterprises was part of Team CarECycle and helped secure their win.

Congratulations to Omar and the rest of his team on their second place win with CarECycle!

3rd Place: Team Seed won third place with their farm to table solution for tagging where you food comes from and allowing you to track it from the farm to your table using their QR code app.

Peacekeeper Enterprises Congratulates The Winning Team Of iHope Hackathon 2017

The iHope Hackathon 2017 was a weekend-long innovation competition to design and build technology tools that respond to specific community needs related to homelessness in Bakersfield, CA. It was held Oct. 13th through the 15th 2017 at The Mission at Kern County. Three developers, Christian Chavez, Lizandro Perez, and Omar Oseguera from Peacekeeper Enterprises participated in the iHope Hackathon 2017 and their team, “Mission Outreach”, won first place! Christian, Omar, Cesar Nuno, and Miguel Trigueros of Team “Mission Outreach” are also students at Cal State Bakersfield (CSUB).

Their winning project entry consisted of a bar code scanning mobile app and website which would allow organizations that provide services to the homeless to better track and manage demand. The website can also be used to register homeless and find information (such as contact info and map location) about other non profit organizations.

Congratulations To Alex For His 1st Place Win At The 2016-2017 CSUB Research Competition

Intern Alex Rinaldi won 1st place in the Engineering and Computer Sciences category at the 2016-2017 California State University, Bakersfield Student Research Competition. Alex will be moving on to present at the statewide competition hosted at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in April.

In Alex’s research, he enlarged and enhanced low-quality images to get high-quality images without the need for more expensive equipment. The application is to enlarge thermal images of solar panels to make hot spot detection easier, or to detect damaged areas that need to be replaced without the need for high quality thermal cameras.

We wish Alex the best of luck during his presentation at Cal Poly SLO!

Peacekeeper Interns To Present At International Conference

Peacekeeper Interns Alex Rinaldi, Omar Oseguera and JoAnn Tuazon were recently accepted to present at the 19th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction for their work in Machine Learning and Sentiment Analysis. The group started their project as part of their senior seminar at Cal State Bakersfield.

In their research, the team used a corpus of therapy transcripts, performed sentiment analysis (detection of emotion in text), and used machine learning to predict whether a transcript showed signs of suicidal ideation or not.

Additionally, the team has conducted research in using Recurrent Neural Networks for response generation. The team hopes to train the RNNs with their other work in order to create a suicide-prevention chat application.

Two poster abstracts will be presented  in Vancouver, Canada this summer.

Congratulations Joey On Your New Position With The County

Joseph, “Joey”, Bedard will be leaving  Peacekeeper to start a new position as an Auditor-Appraiser for the Kern County Assessor’s office.

Joey graduated from Garces Memorial High School in 2012, and received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University in 2016.

At his new role, Joey will perform and assist in audits and appraisals. Now that Joey has received this new position, his next goals are to, “Pass the certification test to become a certified ‘Appraiser for Property Tax Purposes’ and take things one step at a time.”

At Peacekeeper, Joey has done fantastic work as an Assistant Accountant, and although we are sad to see him go, we are also ecstatic for his accomplishments and wish him the best!
